Ruekert Warriors

Thank you for taking the time to read about why we want YOU as a Team member of Ruekert Warriors!

After our fundraiser last year, our family was invited to participate in a different fundraising event supporting a different cause. This particular fundraising event used a very similar fundraising platform that we use to support raising money for FSHD. Torn between wanting to help our friend who invited us to join her Team and having just wrapped up our own fundraiser only 3 weeks earlier, our first thoughts were:

1. How could we possibly ask our friends & family for any more donations to support this other cause that we don't have any personal connection towards, when we had just asked everyone in our life to make a donation to help cure FSHD. . .a cause that directly affects our family. We thought there was no way we could help raise anymore money and surely no one would be interested to support us in yet another fundraising request.

2. We were exhausted from just having finished our fundraising event only 3 weeks prior and we honestly wanted nothing more than a break from asking for donations.

However, the importance of this other particular cause outweighed the two reasons above that were in reality only excuses as to why not to help fundraise on our part and help out a good friend.

We decided to set a simple goal to help raise $100 on behalf of our friend's Team that we had joined. We reached out only once to 10 friends. We were blown away by our friends' responses and we happen to raise $200 for our friend's Team and we didn't really even try. It's amazing what happens when you take a chance and just simply ask. We found that most people are willing to give when asked.

We are simply asking that you please consider becoming a member of Ruekert Warriors, whether in person or virtually and help us fundraise to reach our goal to raise $12,500 to help support programs and funding research that will directly impact patients and families like ours living with FSH Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD).

Joining our Team is FREE!! We urge you to set a simple fundraising goal of $100 and reach out to 10 of your friends and/or family. Share with them that you personally know someone living daily with
Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, or FSHD, a genetic disorder that leads to the weakening of skeletal muscles. It affects an estimated 1 in 8,000 individuals, or 870,000 people worldwide. Around 20 percent will need a wheelchair by age 50. Over 70 percent experience debilitating pain and fatigue. There is no effective treatment or cure—but there is hope.

Even if you don't receive any donations, you have now educated 10 more people in this world about what FSHD is and brought about a greater awareness, and the power in that our friends, is priceless!

We appreciate all your love & support!
With Love, Tom, Katie, Ayden & Nolan Ruekert
